We're up to 59 signers in 60 hours -- Not Bad! And half of you haven't even gotten around to signing yet! Here's a rousing endorsement from a long time libertarian who sent it out to dozens of people he knows. Please sign up. If we get around 1400 signers it will be 5% of the membership -- the magic number that we would need if we ever wanted to challenge a decision of the LNC. (Which this petition technically does not.) But it will show that libertarians want the party to stick to principle! Carol in dc PS...fundraising appeal to come soon since we have to pay for our next series of LPNEWS ads. Meanwhile, if you haven't bought your libs4peace buttons which until then are paying off the last add that I paid for, please go to http://www.libertarians4peace.net +++++ Fri, 22 Mar 2002 16:15:45 -0600 From: "Terry L Parker" <txliberty@hotmail.com> See: http://www.libertarians4peace.net/ You don't even have to be a libertarian to sign their peace petition to the LNC:

Libertarians are premised on consistency to your freedom to chose to do anything EXCEPT initiate, or do a credible threat to initiate physical force against the person or justly acquired possessions of another. While that premise allows for an individual choice of 'self-defense' it prohibits actual or credible threats of initial use of physical force.

I (Terry Liberty Parker) have been, and continue to be (and always will be), an active promoter of consistency to the above 'physical aggression truce' Some of what I have done over the decades has made local, national and even international news from time to time. I have also served in various offices of the local and state Libertarian Party (mostly mid 1970s to early 1980s). My libertarian promotion has been essentially diffused into the local (Austin, Texas) community for the last couple of decades; though its effect reaches beyond this 'heart of Texas'

The 'war on terrorism' is NOT 'self-defense' by any rationally scrutinizable argument!

Known liars and cheats (aka: politicians leading the US govt) have 'asserted' that the 911 attack 'justifies' the current and proposed US military invasions as 'self-defense' They have not presented credible and scrutinizable evidence to the public for this proposition. Why is the Libertarian Party officially endorsing unfounded claims by known liars and cheats? They (US govt politicians) have violated the Constitution of the United States of America by conducting 'acts of war' without abiding by the constitutionally directed process to have congress officially 'declare war' against another nation; or issue letters of manqu and reprisal (the ONLY other 'constitutional' option). The current and proposed initiations of physical assault upon people innocent of 911 attacks is unconstitutional and unconscionable. Why is the Libertarian Party officially endorsing initiation of physical assault in violation of its own founding premise?

It is galling enough to consider what evil US govt politicians have done in the name of America. It is an OUTRAGE that the Libertarian Party has been, at least partially, apparently captured by establishment sycophants who are devoid of commitment to the essential principles of non-aggression embedded in the foundation of the party platform. When cornered in discussions of their apparent inconsistency, they resort to fear driven rationalizations that do not withstand scrutiny. Some even refuse to discuss it any more upon being cornered in the argument; or will just repeat in 'mantra' like fashion the same baseless assertions that had just been refuted. In either case, not acknowledging or addressing the specific criticism of their rationalization.

What is at stake is the Libertarian Party's role in the world. It has been, up till 911, an important instrument for good. If it can't be 'saved' from this attempt to hi-jack it away from its essential commitment to promoting the 'physical aggression truce' people of conscience will abandon the party; leave it to its establishment destiny.

The Libertarians 4 Peace petition wording is tentative; not set in stone. Some have pointed out problems with the current wording. But, the current wording is essentially a 'first draft' for a statement to be modified and refined by the new Libertarian Party National Committee to be elected at the upcoming National convention. (see www.lp.org and

www.libertarians4peace.net for more about that)

I urge you to add your name to this petition (or start AND promote another to the LNC with the wording you want):
